When you create a scholarship fund at Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley you create an opportunity to enrich lives of students for future generations to come
Our donors create scholarships for different reasons, perhaps to honor the memory of loved ones, to support areas of personal interest such as health sciences, education or arts, or to assist students who are the first in their families to attend college. Often, scholarships are established as memorials for individuals whose interests are perpetuated by the fund.
Most scholarship funds are started with a permanent endowment contribution that can be added to by the donor or by others at any time. The contributions are invested by the Foundation and the earnings from the fund are utilized each year for the scholarships according to the criteria established by the donor. The Scholarship can bear the name chosen by the donor and the recipient can be informed of the source of the scholarship funds, or they can remain anonymous. All permanent scholarship funds receive the benefit of the Foundation's professionally managed investment program which will protect and enhance the scholarship’s value into the future.
The purpose of each scholarship fund is determined by the Donor when it is created. There are two types of criteria that must be defined when establishing a scholarship fund: eligibility criteria and selection criteria. The eligibility criteria define who may apply for the scholarship; while the selection criteria help the scholarship committee determines who among the applicants should receive the scholarship.
The Foundation’s staff is available to meet with interested donors to answer any questions they may have when considering criteria for their scholarship. Whatever your goals are for awarding scholarships, the CFBV is here to help you.
